simultaneous left and right-handed blind contours.  ballpoint pen.
This morning I did a few 45-second blind gesture drawings (blind = not looking at the paper as you draw … I kinda cheated, you can tell in places) with both hands.  The results were real weird!  My left hand doesn’t have as much fine motor coordination, so everything is large and jagged over there.

Left-handed 45-second figure drawing warmups.  sharpie pen and posemaniacs.
If you’ve been following my twitter or comic, you might’ve picked up that I’ve been having some wrist issues.  In an attempt to take some pressure off my right hand, I’ve been giving a shot at doing a bunch of small things left-handed, including drawing.  It hasn’t been that all that bad?  There’s zero muscle memory over there, but I’ve actually been kind of disappointed with how surprisingly-not-awful my attempts have been.
Sorry for not keeping regular updates lately!  It’s been way too hot to be at the computer for long intervals.

Brush practice.  Brush and ink.
I honestly hadn’t touched a inking brush in several months until yesterday.  It’s nice to be back, I think the time away made me rethink the way I was working.  These guys are characters from A Thing I’ve been working on for a while.
Also at the bottom is Ombre de Loup from Freaks’ Squeele, which is among my very very favorite comics despite my inability to understand French in any capacity.  I want so badly for this comic to be picked up and translated, I think it’d do well with an English-speaking audience.  If you are fluent in French or want a gorgeous/sexy/fun/tongue-in-cheek bit of eye-candy, seriously consider picking up the series.

Figure Drawing Friday HEY WAIT THIS ISN’T FANART WHERE’S THE FANART
I haven’t posted any totally boring 30-second gesture drawing pages lately!  Here’s an overlay of two days.  Posemaniacs.com recently added the “freak” body-type, which is basically a whole buncha Hulks strikin’ bodybuilder poses.  I delight every time one of them comes up on the randomizer.
Since we’re on the subject of fanart, I started my entry for the FYGameOfThronesArt Contest, because I will take practically any excuse to draw ASoIaF characters.

30-second gesture figure drawing.  Red ballpoint pen.
Haven’t posted one of these in a while!  Here, have a page of Posemaniacs gesture drawings.
Oh gosh, and thank you guys for digging the picture of Storm from Friday!  It now has more notes than any other picture I’ve posted!  Woa!

30-second gesture figure drawing.  Ballpoint pen.
I draw figures much more quickly and with more confidence after a few minutes of warmups.  I’ve already posted — what now — four nearly-identical images to this one?  Sorry, there’s lot of pages of warmups in my sketchbooks!  :|
In case you missed the links before, here’s the sites I use:Posemaniacs | PixelLovely
If you guys know of any other gesture drawing sites, I’d love to hear about them!

30-Second Figure Drawing Warmups from the PixelLovely gesture drawing tool.
Looks like Sunday has become “post drawing warmups” day.  This is the fourth page of 30-second gestures I’ve posted here — sorry if this starts to get boring. :|
As much as I enjoy PixelLovely, it bugs me that only about 10% of the photos are men, and nearly all the photos of women have practically the same body-type.  (Although it’s not as bad as Posemaniacs, where all images are identical bodytypes, being 3D models and all.)  I need to find some new drawing resources.
So hey, Ananth showed me this neat thing this morning: Google Body.  It only works in Firefox 4 and Chrome right now, but it’s a cool resource for muscular/skeletal/nervous/organ systems.

More 30-second figure drawings.  Something like three days of warmups, drawn on top of each other.
There’s also a whole bunch of 30-second animal gesture drawings in there.  I like how at the bottom left, a woman and a giraffe kind of serendipitously meld together into a centaur.
