So I wanted to buy a cat sweater from the internet but was a little short for shipping so I asked twitter if anyone wanted a $10 sketch and @annagorn was the first person to bite and she asked for Penny as a D&D character so I kind of went overboard and now I have this picture of Penny as a D&D character AND a cat sweater, so it’s an overall win for everyone, I think.
I came across an amazing post on the Lucky Penny tag and have been excitedly waiting for today’s page to post this unfortunate aftermath to these guys’ romantic shenanigans. Penny, Walter, you guys are babies.
I saw some other people drawin’ their characters as Animal Crossing animals and thought it was a fun idea! Walter and North both get to be “Smug”-type, because that’s the closest equivalent to “anxious,” ha ha.
Lucky Penny Pg. 34 colored. brush and ink, photoshop.
Apparently today is National Lucky Penny day? OH HEY THAT IS THE NAME OF THE BOOK I AM WORKING ON! Sometimes I think about how nice it would be if this book was printed in full color. Maybe it will become very popular and warrant a full-color job a la Scott Pilgrim and someone else will color the whole thing for me.
Penny and Walter’s Uncomfortable Dinner. brush and ink.
If you were not aware, Ananth and I are currently posting pages from Lucky Penny over at Johnny Wander! This is a panel from page 60-something, but I was pleased with the inks and am sharing it with you now.
This was the second time I’d ever used SketchUp to do a panel layout. Just a buncha squares to show where furniture sat — but it was a fairly painless process, all things considered. And it saved me an incredible amount of time!
I did a lot of art this year! Unfortunately, most of it is unpublished and/or for unannounced projects. And while I prefer to put this yearly meme together with exclusively private non-fanart work, a good deal of fanart/published/professional work made its way into the spread.
I would like for 2013 to be a “keep your head down, work work work and don’t stop” year, though that was the intention for last year and I didn’t get half the things done last year I wanted. Or maybe I keep unrealistic expectations of myself.
Funny how the year both opened and ended with Dhio and Kaia! Maybe I should do another portrait of them before the month is over.
Wow, everything I’ve posted lately has been in greyscale! I promise I’ll have something really cool and full-color next week— it’s just been kinda crazy lately and everything I’ve been doing has been related to work or various projects.
I’m pretty pleased with how the environments are turning out in the book! I actually completely made up Penny and Helen’s old apartment building, which was dumb, I should’ve looked up a photo reference. But noo, I had to go and completely fudge some sorta renovated motel-turned apartment complex. Yeesh.
I honestly hadn’t touched a inking brush in several months until yesterday. It’s nice to be back, I think the time away made me rethink the way I was working. These guys are characters from A Thing I’ve been working on for a while.
Also at the bottom is Ombre de Loup from Freaks’ Squeele, which is among my very very favorite comics despite my inability to understand French in any capacity. I want so badly for this comic to be picked up and translated, I think it’d do well with an English-speaking audience. If you are fluent in French or want a gorgeous/sexy/fun/tongue-in-cheek bit of eye-candy, seriously consider picking up the series.
