Kaia and Dhio painting, animated process gif.
I made a little process gif of how I made the previous painting.  Ha ha, I have this bad habit of digitally noodling with real media stuff until it looks digital.  Gotta looooosen uuuup
I should probably mention, the actual painting is super tiny, maybe 4”x4”.

Birthday Pheasant for Aaron.  Ink wash/watercolor/acrylic wash.
I’m away from home and it turns out my parents’ scanner is incompatible with my OS!  So I can’t scan anything new, but here’s a tiny painting I did for Aaron’s birthday last week.

Benign Kingdom Dog Painting, Shiba Inu. Ink wash, some photoshop colors.
The last dog portrait from the 2012 Spring Benign Kingdom kickstarter!  This contributor requested a shiba inu, which are also coincidentally my favorite dogs.  Here’re the first and second dog portraits if you missed them.
The Fall 2012 Benign Kingdom kickstarter is still going for another day!  Give it a look-see, this collection is highlighting Emmy, Anthony, Aaron, and Danielle!  They will also paint some dogs for you!

Copy of an Audubon Painting.  1997.  Nostalgia Monday.
Aw yiss, more stuff found in my parents’ basement!
When I was 12, my mom gave me a miniature book of Audubon bird paintings.  Somehow it became my most important resource book for a couple years— I learned a lot about anatomy and wing structure from leafing through the thing for hours and trying to copy the paintings in watercolor.  This one was a sharp-shinned hawk.  There were a bunch more, but this guy was my favorite.

Engwish Bwudd, 2007.  Acrylic/mixed media/collage on wood, 12”x12”.  Nostalgia Monday.
Whew, finally back in NYC!  It’s been a long day.  This is a painting I did in either my junior or senior year of college — we were supposed to do an interpretation of the first 30 seconds of a song, I chose Engwish Bwudd by Man Man.  I’m not sure if this was ever posted online?
A hint: it helps if you listen to the song and follow each figure for two beats in the first line and four beats in the second and third lines.  There’s some hidden characters in there, primarily Forza and myself and Pythias smack in the middle.
There’s a lot of flawed stuff about this painting, but I’m still fond of it— mostly because it’s so drastically different than anything I’d ever made before or since.  It’s hanging in our living room.

It’s my mentee/protégée/young ward’s birthday today!  I painted her a teeny painting because she is lovely, and also quickly climbing the ranks of my Very Favorite People.
Happy Birthday, Katie! ♥

Sid and Serona.  Photoshop painting.
Put this up on Monday at Johnny Wander.  (Haha, I actually did it back in December, I’ve been sitting on it in case we’d need a filler illustration.)  I wish I had more free time, I’d do time-intensive photoshop noodling all the time.

Serona, photoshop.  Kind of aped Peachifruit and Aaron Diaz, because they are amazing.

Did a little coloring exercise today, since I’m the first to admit that I know nothing about colors and that should seriously change because it’s embarrassing.

I went through my Tumblr Likes page and brought the first photo I came across with dynamic colors into Photoshop.  Then I colored a sketch using the photo as my palette.  Unfortunately, the photo was practically monochromatic, so the whole thing didn’t go quite as well as hoped.  But it still worked out okay.  Next, I’ll use something more along the lines of this photo and I think it’ll be a bit more challenging.
