"Eouen was a terror bird in her first life." photoshop.
A bunch of people were really excited by the last sentence of the most recent worldbuilding post, so I finally took a crack at Eouen’s design.  She was originally some sort of colossal leucistic terror bird who was remade into a sun god.
Looking around at reference images of terror birds, it was weird to see a lot of reconstructions based on modern large flightless birds (ratites) instead of their closest living relatives (seriemas).  Then again, I’m not in any way a scientist or scientific illustrator!  Anyway, I went for a more elegant streamlined body shape and specialized feathers closer to seriemas with a coloration based on secretary birds.  Because it’s fantasy and I get to do what I like!

freehand god head.  pen, photoshop.
We’re back from Toronto!  I’d like to thank everyone who stopped by and/or hung out at TCAF, you guys are so lovely and should feel good about yourselves.
I’ve been doing a bunch of stuff that isn’t for public consumption yet, so here’s a thing I drew in the airport.  I had a really enlightening conversation about freehand drawing with Boulet and have since been trying to incorporate more of it into what I do.

Death and the Hearth.  Pencil, photoshop.
There’s a open ballot to vote for the names of Pluto’s two unnamed moons and let-me-say-right-now, I am a huge supporter of one of them being named Persephone.  (Well it should technically be Prosperpina/Prosperpine if you’re going for the Roman names but I digress.)  The whole thing’s made me think a bunch about my own Hades and Persephone analogues; Dhio being an irritable creepy god of what people (mistakenly) assume is death and Kaia being an even-temepered goddess of the hearth and domesticated animals.
Anyway what I’m getting at is that, despite its being in first place, Vulcan really isn’t an appropriate name for a frozen moon of a dwarf planet.

Crest of the Sun God.  Photoshop.
For the Benign Kingdom kickstarter, I decided to take the chance to finally finish Eouen's god crest.  Hers was the first I designed, but I haven’t touched it since that little doodle.  It was really fun looking up references of secretary birds and Byzantine eagles for this one!
This is gonna be in my Benign Kingdom Art Book!  Sorry to press this again, but the kickstarter ends in 6 hours omigosh.  If you want to pledge, now is the time!
Oh and hey, Ananth and I are going to be at a Q&A at Midtown Comics tonight!  More info here if you want to come by.  Hopefully we’ll see you there!

Eouen redesign.  Colored ink drawing.
Finally colored the Eouen redesign drawing I did like a month ago.  Her costume looks a lot more… coherent now.
Eouen (pronounced OWEN) is the primary Eastern cardinal god and is Dhio and Kaia’s boss.  Like Dhio, she was started life as a prehistoric beast who was then granted godhood.  (She was a kind of cross between some sort of terrorbird and a secretary bird - yet another thing I gotta draw out eventually)
Maybe next I’ll draw some Northern gods?  Or maybe I’ll just draw nothing but Eastern gods forever and ever.

Eouen, 2002.  Nostalgia Monday, this is nearly ten years old oh jeez I was 16 aaa
I’ve been looking for this picture for a couple weeks now, figured I’d lost it!  Turns out it was on an older hard drive.
Since I’ve been drawing my old pantheon, might as well show off how I used to draw my old pantheon.  Eouen is the cardinal god of the East and technically Dhio and Kaia’s boss.  I was still subscribing to the school of “let’s put some funky elaborate shit on a character that’s pretty memorable right?”  I might just have played Final Fantasy 10.
Someone requested a redesign of Eouen in the comments recently, I’m definitely gonna do it.  I like her too much to leave her with that costume. :/ :\ :/ :\
why am I putting this back on the internet, the internet doesn’t need to remember this
