Candy Capers #5 comes out today! Tessa Stone did the second half of the issue and let-me-tell-you, both she and Ianknocked it out of the park. Ananth and I have been pleased as punch with how this series has been shaping up. Infinite thanks to our letterer Hannah, colorist Maarta, and our awesome editor Shannon.
I’m bummed this cover was rejected, but hopefully it will be included in the collected trade paperback!
Candy Capers Issue 3 Cover: Variant A. brush and ink, photoshop.
Oh dang, Adventure Time: Candy Capers is out TODAY! Let-me-tell-you, I went through like 4 or 5 different thumbnails to make Lemongrab as un-terrifying as possible.
The first half of the issue was drawn by Evan! He did an incredible job, especially considering the number of butts we forced him to draw. The second half returns to Ian McGinty who, as always, is perfect in every way and a pleasure to work with. Lettering by Hannah Nance Partlow and colors by Maarta Laiho, both of whom are the irreplaceable glue that keeps this book together. And love to our editor Shannon forever.
Candy Capers Issue 2 Variant A Cover. brush and ink, photoshop.
Oh dang, I was wrong! Adventure Time: Candy Capers Issue #2 is out in stores NOW! My cover is the Variant A cover this month, which means you should be able to get it anywhere that carries the series. Ian did an awesome job drawing this one, Ananth and I are pleased as punch with how it came together!
I’ve been having a really fun time with my Candy Capers covers! Here’s the mockup I sent for my variant cover of issue #1, did anyone pick up on the reference?
I believe Candy Capers Issue #2 comes out next week? You can see a preview (and also my cover for #2) over at Comics Alliance! Ananth and I (and also Shannon and Ian and Maarta and Hannah) have been working super hard on this series! I hope you guys enjoy it!
Woa woa woa guys! It looks like Adventure Time: Candy Capers Issue #1 is available in stores today?? This is gonna be a 6-issue miniseries written by myself and Ananth and drawn by the super talented Ian McGinty.
Lucky Penny Pg. 34 colored. brush and ink, photoshop.
Apparently today is National Lucky Penny day? OH HEY THAT IS THE NAME OF THE BOOK I AM WORKING ON! Sometimes I think about how nice it would be if this book was printed in full color. Maybe it will become very popular and warrant a full-color job a la Scott Pilgrim and someone else will color the whole thing for me.
Penny and Walter’s Uncomfortable Dinner. brush and ink.
If you were not aware, Ananth and I are currently posting pages from Lucky Penny over at Johnny Wander! This is a panel from page 60-something, but I was pleased with the inks and am sharing it with you now.
This was the second time I’d ever used SketchUp to do a panel layout. Just a buncha squares to show where furniture sat — but it was a fairly painless process, all things considered. And it saved me an incredible amount of time!
We posted the second half of my 2013 hourly comics over at Johnny Wander! Man, I was extra boring this year. Although this is pretty much what my average day looks like; work a lot and don’t leave the apartment.
We’re doing a release party for Johnny Wander V3: Ballad of Laundry Cat at Bergen St. Comics! I think we’ll have a projector set up - the plan is to do some drawing games with you guys! We’ll have the books and probably some other stuff - hope you can make it!
