Another old sketch that I dug out and colored. Gosh I hope there’s no kids watching this blog. Go away, kids. Come back in a week.

Death and the Hearth. Pencil, photoshop.
There’s a open ballot to vote for the names of Pluto’s two unnamed moons and let-me-say-right-now, I am a huge supporter of one of them being named Persephone. (Well it should technically be Prosperpina/Prosperpine if you’re going for the Roman names but I digress.) The whole thing’s made me think a bunch about my own Hades and Persephone analogues; Dhio being an irritable creepy god of what people (mistakenly) assume is death and Kaia being an even-temepered goddess of the hearth and domesticated animals.
Anyway what I’m getting at is that, despite its being in first place, Vulcan really isn’t an appropriate name for a frigid moon of a dwarf planet.

Reason and Desire process. (final)
As promised, here’s the process gif of yesterday’s illustration. The colors were originally more muted with soft greens instead of the yellow, but then I decided to shoot for a high-saturation primary palette.
There’s more of my process posts over here if you’re interested!

Reason and Desire. pencil, photoshop.
Found this drawing from last year then kinda got carried away cleaning it up and coloring it. I’m not 100% on the meaning of cosmos flowers, but the name means “balanced” and there’s a variety called the Psyche cosmos, so I went with ‘em. (And Serona’s costume design is the same as from this illustration.)
I’ll post a process gif tomorrow!

Prakin’ Theon. Fanart Fridayyyy
OH HEY HEADS UP, spoilers for ASoIaF: The Winds of Winter. This was drawn back when the Theon sample chapter went up last year (which seems to have disappeared off the internet) and I fiddled the thing into a readable state after my buddy Chelsea asked me to dig it up.
Now that the Beast is slain, maybe I’ll try to do more Fanart Fridays in the future? I’ve been meaning to draw some Vattu fanart for ages.

Hourly Comics: 2013
We posted the second half of my 2013 hourly comics over at Johnny Wander! Man, I was extra boring this year. Although this is pretty much what my average day looks like; work a lot and don’t leave the apartment.

Benign Kingdom 2013 Dog Process. (final full logo)
Hey guys! The Benign Kingdom Spring 2013 kickstarter only has a few hours left! If it reaches $50K, Evan, Becky, KC, and myself will do a fresh new jam poster that will be sent to everyone who receives a physical shipment! Also this group of artists is so rad, you guys. I’ve seen these books and they are gorgeous.

Nostalgia Monday: Krehs Dragons, 1997. (age 11)
Last night I stumbled upon a giant cache of my old artwork in a series of hidden folders. These guys were pretty much my earliest characters; I’d just seen Star Wars in its entirety for the first time and thought the aliens were pretty much the coolest things. Already bein’ way into dragons, I designed these mammilian pseudo-dragons and proceeded to become obsessed with them until that obsession was replaced by Pokémon in 1998/99.
I recall drawing a chunk of these on a Saturday while watching Hercules and Xena in the basement.

Goblin on a Rooster. Pencil, photoshop.
Evan declared this week Goblin Week and I could not refuse him. There are two more days in Goblin Week if you would like to join along! But truly, every week is Goblin Week.
I kinda made this fella up as I went along so he might be more of an unusually small kobold than an unusually small goblin? Also I think I was subconsciously channeling Lauren Pettapiece and/or Sam Bosma with this one, and while I’m here you guys should be following their tumblrs if you are not already.
and sorry for the goblin shark link up there.

Lion Queen process.
Put together a process gif of the thing I posted yesterday. The initial sketch was 2.5”x3” because everything I draw is teeny always.
